Thursday October 8, 2026 8:00am - 12:00pm HST
The Small Business Reorganization Act (SBRA):
Why Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys Need to Understand Sub-Chapter V

This is a must attend program for every consumer attorney who sees small business clients! The SBRA brought big changes for small businesses when it took effect February 2020. It bridged the gap between chapter 13 and chapter 11 providing an affordable and less complex bankruptcy option for small businesses. NACBA’s esteemed panel of bankruptcy attorneys, a Sub-V Trustee, and highly respected bankruptcy judge will educate consumer attorneys on the nuances of the SBRA and how to evaluate cases that would render better results for your clients if filed under Sub-V. The panel will share insights, forms, fee agreements, how to set your fees, and other helpful materials in the 4-hour intensive study.

Pre-Workshop Session: Clearing the Tax Currents: Navigating Tax Issues in Consumer Bankruptcy
Thursday October 8, 2026 8:00am - 12:00pm HST
It’s a Great Time to Add Tax Resolution Services to Your Bankruptcy Practice

If you’re a consumer bankruptcy attorney you’ve likely handled cases with tax debt. Tax resolution work is one of the highest dollar-per-hour services you can offer, so why are you leaving money on the table? Clients seek the advice of bankruptcy counsel to solve their debt problems, but if you’re leaving tax debt unresolved by simply saying it’s not dischargeable, you’re leaving the client with a problem. Learn from NACBA’s panel of leading tax experts. Know when to handle a tax controversy matter and when to refer it out. Learn to identify tax resolution cases, evaluate tax transcripts, the attorney/client engagement process, how to get paid, fee structures and fee agreements, malpractice pitfalls, offers-in-compromise, installment agreements, innocent spouse relief, CNC, penalty abatement, IRS notices and critical dates. This 4-hour intensive study will provide helpful materials, checklists, and samples.
